Time to Make the Most of What's Left of the Season

1974 Raleigh Sports with Dynohub and B&M Lumotec Classic

The days are getting shorter, though the weather is still reasonably warm. Now is the time to make the most of your Dynohubs, LED lights, reflectors, battery-powered lights, and whatever else you use to get the most out of what daylight we have left. The season is starting to wind down here for riding, at least for riding after work in the evenings. There's just a few weeks left for that. There's a little more time if you ride during the day on the weekends, but eventually the cold weather will take hold. You'll want these days back come January!

  1. Do you find that the stock GH-1 Dynohub provides adequate power to the Lumotec Classic? I've also got a 1974 Raleigh Superbe with the same Lumotec Classic, and it's really too dim to see anything by -- but I'm not sure whether there's something wrong with the Dynohub (demagnetized, probably) or whether the vintage hub is simply insufficient. Your take?

    1. It's on the dim side. On mine, it's just barely enough to make out the road, but it's certainly not enough to be a safe lamp on its own (you won't see a pothole or similar until the last second). On a dark road, I'd supplement it with a modern battery-powered LED. It's OK for areas with really good street lamps or when the sun is just going down and you still have some daylight. So if that sounds like yours, it's that you need a supplemental lamp. If yours sounds even dimmer, it could be a demagnetized Dynohub.
