Please note that I do not give appraisals or answer appraisal inquiries involving random old bikes online. Appraisals are a form of science in which the appraiser needs to account for all the different aspects of a piece of property (whether it be a bicycle, or anything else for that matter).
Often, online sales ads or finds only have a few pictures and a basic description, which may or may not be correct. I like having as much information as possible, and so I do not perform such "off the cuff" type appraisals because I want to provide the best valuation and information that I can give.
I will occasionally give appraisals for friends or fellow collectors I am familiar with, and who understand the limitations of the online appraisal format. But these are limited situations and done as a personal courtesy to someone I know or am familiar with, and who appreciates the drawbacks of "spitballing" an appraisal just based on pictures or an ad online.
