Hot Day for a Ride - Raleigh Model 35 Content

We had several days of high heat this week, with temperatures around 95F (35C). There was also plenty of humidity. I took out this beautiful 1947 Raleigh Model 35 for a ride late on one of those hot afternoons. Riding early or late in the day can help limit the heat a bit, and lengthens the shadows so you can ride longer in the share (at least around here where we have plenty of trees). I enjoy riding in the evening, especially when we have lots of daylight in the summer.

Later in the day is also a time to see birds and animals you might not see earlier in the day. This Great Blue Heron is a common, albeit large, bird we have here in New England.

  1. Can you comment on how the Model 35 compares/contrasts with the Sports or the Superbe? It's beautiful. No Raleigh Heron on the crank.

    1. The Model 35 was the "bare bones" version of the Sports type bike. Same frame, fenders, bars, stem, and basics as the Sports. But on the Model 35, you paid extra for a chain guard, lights, dynohub, etc. The Model 35 was available if you wanted something like the Sports, but a more basic, economy type bike. The parts and frame were the same Raleigh quality, just fewer extras.
