An Unusual Dynohub - 1964 Sturmey Dynothree with 36-holes

Sturmey Archer Model AG "Dynothree" hubs are not truly uncommon in the United States. They come up with fair frequency in online sales or on old British bicycles. The vast majority of these hubs are drilled for 40-holes to go on a British-made bicycle. A few from 1974 and later have 36-holes, when the common British light roadsters converted largely to a 36-hole rear wheel from the 40-hole.

But I recently acquired and re-built a beautiful Dynothree from 1964 with 36-holes. This unusual hub is drilled for an American bicycle, probably either a "lightweight" or a "middleweight" type American bike. The hub makes power as it should, and the bearings are in pristine shape. It seems to have been used to a degree, but saw very few miles overall.

I'm glad I added this to my collection of hubs because it's the only 36-hole Dynothree that I own from before the 1970s.

Perhaps I'll come across a nice old Schwinn project for this hub.
